Mr. Patrick CHAN Chi-king was appointed Director, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs, Shanghai by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on 14 August 2006, and arrived in Shanghai to perform his duties the following month.

Mr. Chan joined the Hong Kong Government in 1978. He had worked in more than 10 different executive departments and policy branches/bureaux before and after the reunification, including the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in San Francisco, USA, the Home Affairs Department, the Department of Justice, the Constitutional Affairs Bureau, and the Environment, Transport and Works Bureau. Before assuming the post of Director, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Affairs, Shanghai, he was the Research Director in the Central Policy Unit.
